Popstar Madonna was “hell-bent” on buying a Bored Ape NFT but rued she could not do so as it was way too expensive.
Bored Ape #3756 is currently listed on the NFT platform OpenSea for a staggering 88.69 ETH, equivalent to $1.27 million.
The superstar, however, whose net worth is $575 million, eventually purchased Ape #4988 through Moonpay at a price of $466,000.
“I was hellbent on getting an Ape and really specific about what I wanted: the Ape with a leather motorcycle cap on and multicolored teeth,” Madonna said. “I was told that it was inspired by me, and modeled after me, and it was bought by a woman who’s a fan of mine. She was gonna sell it to me, but it was way too expensive,” Madonna told Variety.
Yuga Labs, the creator of BAYC and Ape Coin was able to raise $450 million in a seed-funding round that has put the valuation of Yuga Labs over $4 billion.
On being asked if Bored Ape #3756 was indeed inspired by Madonna, a Yuga Labs representative said Apes are not designed or modeled after anyone in particular.
“The Yuga Labs team loves it when people see themselves in certain apes. The S&M hat is one of the founders’ favorite characteristics in the collection, they love anything punk rock. Madonna helped popularize that style, which the founders are a fan of,” the representative said.
However, #4988 isn’t a terrible alternative. The ape Madonna owns has the same black S&M cap and colorful fur as Ape #3756.
Out of the 10,000 NFTs in the collection, the NFT she wants is ranked 123rd, whereas the one she already owns is ranked 3,754 according to Rarity Sniper data.
Beyond the Bored Apes, Madonna has other targets in mind. The singer owns two World of Women NFTs, each of which cost around $13,000. She also minted one Otherdeed, one of Yuga Labs’ NFTs that holders would get in the future metaverse game Otherside.
