The US’ sanctions on Chinese firms for alleged involvement with Russia is a typical case of unilateral sanctions and illegal “long-arm jurisdiction,” China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM)<\/u><\/a> said on Saturday, urging Washington to immediately correct its wrongdoings and stop unreasonable suppression of Chinese companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Here\u2019s what we know: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The list released on Wednesday primarily targeted Russian billionaire businessman Alisher Usmanov<\/u><\/a>. It is believed that Usmanov is extremely close to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev, the former Russian president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Treasury Department accused him of having a “wide network of businesses in financial safe havens and family members through which to conduct financial transactions, enabling him to potentially circumvent sanctions”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Reportedly, five firms based in mainland China and Hong Kong were put on the sanctions list – meaning they cannot trade with any US-based firms without receiving a special licence, which is highly unobtainable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Avtex Semiconductor Limited<\/u><\/a>, Allparts Trading Co<\/u><\/a>., Maxtronic International Co<\/u><\/a>., ETC Electronics Ltd<\/u><\/a>., and STK Electronics Co<\/u><\/a>. – all based and registered in Hong Kong- were on the new sanctions list. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt is a typical unilateral sanction and a form of \u2018long-arm jurisdiction\u2019 which seriously damages the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises and affects the security and stability of the global supply chain. China firmly opposes this,\u201d read a statement released by the Chinese Commerce Ministry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe US should immediately correct its wrongdoing and stop its unreasonable suppression of Chinese companies.
