American car manufacturer Ford Motor Company recently made headlines when it filed 19 trademark applications across its major car brands, including Mustang, Bronco, Lincoln, Explorer, and F-150 Lightning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Here’s what we know:<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n United States Patent and Trade Office (USPTO) licensed trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis revealed in a Wednesday tweet that the company had filed 19 trademark applications covering its car brands, including Mustang, Bronco, Lincoln, Explorer, and F-150 Lightning, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The trademark applications cover virtual cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, and clothing for its brands and a proposed online marketplace for NFTs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to USPTO documents filed by Ford on Sept. 2, the car manufacturer plans to create downloadable artwork, text, audio, and video featuring its cars, SUVs, trucks, and vans, which will be authenticated by NFTs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The company also revealed plans for \u201cdownloadable virtual goods,\u201d namely \u201ccomputer programs\u201d featuring vehicle parts and accessories and clothing for use in \u201conline virtual worlds,\u201d including online trade shows conducted in virtual reality and augmented reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There are also intentions to create a marketplace to promote the \u201cdigital artwork of others\u201d through a website, along with \u201conline retail store services featuring non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and digital collectibles.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ford\u2019s decision to enter the Web3 space comes less than a month after Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford and CEO Jim Farley announced massive staff cuts from its global workforce to reduce company expenditure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ford is not the first car company to make a move into the Metaverse space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n About the author<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Sharan Kaur Phillora\u2019s thirst for knowledge has led her to study many different subjects, including NFTs and Blockchain technology \u2013 two emerging technologies that will change how we interact with each other in the future.
