Recent announcements from Google Cloud indicate the company’s deeper entry into the Web3 market. The Web3 portal provides a wealth of information specifically designed for blockchain developers. Testnet tools, blockchain datasets, and tutorials for the developing decentralised ecosystem are all featured on the platform. It has, however, been greeted with a mixture of skepticism and praise inside the cryptocurrency sector.

Conversely, some embraced the initiative, with Ivaibi Festo, founder of Mitroplus Labs, lauding the Web3 portal as a “comprehensive resource.”

The portal’s website states that developers can test and deploy decentralised apps (DApps) on the Ethereum testnets Sepolia and Holesky more easily by receiving testnet tokens and access to a wide range of items. Additionally, the platform provides an organized educational curriculum that includes lessons on NFT creation, Web3 loyalty program implementation, and multi-party computation security of digital assets.

This announcement comes after Google made several calculated steps to increase its visibility in the Web3 space. Notably, the tech behemoth extended the scope of its search functions to include wallet balances from a variety of blockchains, such as Avalanche, Bitcoin, Arbitrum, and more. Furthermore, at the beginning of 2024, Google modified its advertising guidelines to allow the promotion of specific cryptocurrency products on well-known search engines, like Bitcoin exchange-traded funds.

The groundwork for the portal’s launch was laid in 2023, marked by Google Cloud’s integration of its BigQuery data warehouse with MultiversX, facilitating valuable insights for Web3 projects and users. In a bid to enrich its blockchain data offerings, Google’s BigQuery incorporated 11 additional blockchain networks, spanning from Ethereum’s Görli testnet to Polkadot and Tron.

Google’s most recent Web3 site attempts to address the expanding demands of blockchain developers and enthusiasts, yet there are differing views in the crypto world about how timely and inclusive it is. Google’s influence on the direction that the Web3 space takes is still being debated.
